Uncertainty Distribution of Estimated Orbits: EKF based Approach
Released on: 08/08/2008
Duration of Work:
2 Semester(s)
Project Description
Extend work in estimating accuracy and the uncertainty distribution of an ISS-type and a Hubble-type orbit of a debris object subject to drag and higher order gravity effects. Perform Monte Carlo studies using an orbital simulation of the space debris with high fidelity models to account for the external disturbances. Investigate the use of an Extended Kalman filter to process tracking data. Determine the uncertainty in the resulting states and characterize the shape and statistical distribution.
Skills or field of knowledge required
Monte Carlo simulation, statistical modeling, debris orbit determination, Kalman Filter development, USSPACECOM Space Surveillance Network (SSN) familiarization
